May 30, 2009

Today was the 3 Mountain Madness ride at Pilot Mountain, NC.  A 75 mile ride with, you guessed it, 3 mountains and about 550 riders.   It was a great day for a ride like this and this was my last ride before I tack on  20 extra pounds and head for the Atlantic Ocean and the beginning of my cross country trip on Monday, June 1st.   I’ll start updating the blog posts daily starting Monday next week.     Here is the link for the 3 Mountain Madness if anyone is interested:  http://www.3mountainmadness.com

The main page of the web site was launched today.   This page shows the interactive map and photo gallery for each state.   The blinking red dot will be updated daily to show my location and the route traveled to reach that location.    The countdown clock will change to a distance counter when the trip begins.   I have NOT started the trip yet, but I have loaded some of the pictures that I have taken from my bike in the last few weeks.       I will give detailed information concerning distance traveled each day,  average speed,  begining and ending points,  and all other pertinent details of the day here in the blog posts.

I lot of people are asking me why I decided to travel from east to west and against the prevailing winds instead of west to east?    There are 3 main reasons for my decision to go east to west.

1)  I will riding mostly in the mornings and away from the sun which will make me more visible to cars coming from behind me.

2)  I live in the central part of North Carolina and the first part of my coast to coast trip will be a 200 mile segment from the North Carolina beach to my house where I will have the opportunity to make any equipment adjustments or add any forgotten supplies and/or get rid of anything that I  don’t need.

3)  It’s more of an adventure for me to start at home where the roads are familiar and work my way west into unknown territory.

April 18, Today was a 90 mile group ride round trip to Pilot Mtn. A little tired at the end. This was a great training ride with.Mike, Jeremy, Scott T , Scott D, Jim, and Ken. Good job guys!
